We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Plumber to join our friendly Maintenance team. This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) with a salary of £36,730 gross per year. You’ll work 5 days out of 7, usually Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work and out-of-hours support. TOIL (time off in lieu) is normally available for emergency callouts.
About the role
As our Plumber, you will carry out plumbing repairs, minor heating installations and general maintenance tasks across the College estate. Around 70% of your work will be plumbing-based, and you’ll also support the wider team with day-to-day maintenance tasks.
Your work will include:
- Reactive and planned repairs to hot and cold-water systems and waste systems
- Installing showers, baths, sinks and WCs to a high standard
- Checking boiler plant rooms and supporting heating system maintenance
- Replacing radiators and thermostatic valves
- Supporting external contractors (e.g., water-hygiene or heating specialists)
- Maintaining accurate meter readings, assisting with room/furniture moves, and general maintenance tasks (tiling, painting, minor carpentry, ironmongery)
- Using the College’s maintenance reporting tool to record and complete jobs
- Working safely and following all PPE, RAMS and COSHH procedures
What we’re looking for
Essential
- A recognised Plumbing and Domestic Heating qualification
- Proven experience as a plumber or heating engineer
- Fitness and mobility suitable for a physically active role
- Confidence working at height and in confined spaces
- A strong understanding of health and safety procedures
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- A flexible, team-focused approach and excellent customer service skills
- Willingness to learn new systems and processes
Desirable
- Recent health and safety training
- Experience with Building Management Systems
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Ability to deputise for the Maintenance Manager
- An understanding of and sympathy with the values of a small, collegiate environment
