Deadline: Tuesday 11 November 2025
St Antony’s College is recruiting for a Plumber, to be responsible for undertaking plumbing-based repairs and minor heating installations across the College estates. You will also work as part of the Maintenance team to provide a day-to-day general maintenance support service (both reactive and planned maintenance).
The Plumber is responsible for carrying out repairs and improvements to our hot-water, cold-water, and waste-water systems, as well as completing full installations of bathroom fixtures to a high standard. You will correctly identify, quantify, and purchase the materials required for jobs, regularly check and monitor boiler plant rooms, replace faulty radiators and EcoSync valves on domestic combi boilers systems, and recognise stagnant tanks – carrying out replumbing to improve flow. The post holder will also assist external contractors when required.
Working as part of the Maintenance team, the Plumber will carry out tiling, painting, minor carpentry, and ironmongery fitting. You will be responsible for taking and accurately recording monthly meter readings, monitoring repair requests, investigating faults, and completing repairs in a timely and professional manner – liaising closely with staff and students to ensure minimum disruption and proactively making recommendations to improve services.
The Plumber plays a key role in ensuring health and safety protocols are followed, ensuring that all works are conducted to the highest safety and quality standards. You will support the induction and supervision of plumbing and heating contractors, and take all safety precautions to prevent danger, avoid injury, and prevent damage. The post holder will work within maintenance Risk Assessment Method Statement procedure, be compliant with Construction Design Management, follow PPE and COSHH procedures at all times, and assist in fire drills.
To be successful in your application, you will have a recognised qualification in Plumbing and Domestic Heating, a trade qualification (or relevant experience), and experience of working as a Plumber or heating engineer, encompassing all aspects of the trade. Fitness and mobility are critical for this demanding role – you will need to be able to work at height and in confined spaces.
The successful candidate will be comfortable with technology, have a sound understanding of working within health and safety constraints, and be willing to attend training where needed. You will be self-motivated with good organisation skills and attention to detail, as well as having an understanding of good customer service and strong interpersonal skills. A flexible approach, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team will be essential in this role.
Ideally, you will have recent health and safety course certificates and knowledge of Building Management Systems. Experience of working in an educational facility and sympathy with the values, ethos and objectives of a small, collegiate institution would be advantageous.
