Manuscripts

In September 2015, the library was given an exciting collection of manuscripts.  This is the first set of manuscripts that the library is delighted to be adding to its various holdings.
A huge thanks goes to Leila Ingrams who bequeathed her parents, Harold and Doreen, library to the MEC library including 18 magnificent manuscripts.
The collection comprises of : 2 West African Quran; 1 Quran in Hindustani language; 1 Quran dating Qajar period containing Persian commentary; Surah Yusuf; Surah Bani Isra'il; a Quran with Persian commentary; the popular book of prayers of Dala’il al-Khayrat.  The collection also includes prose and verses by Firdousi, Nizami, and Sa'adi.    The library is in the process of cataloguing this collection on a specialised database, Fihrist. Please click on  "FIHRIST" to see the first catalogued manuscript.
Please note: the collection is in fragile condition, therefore, with regret none of the manuscripts are available for consultation.  The long term plan is to digitise this amazing collection, to make them available globally.   Watch this space.

Below, are some illuminations from part of the collection:
