Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to equity and diversity, in both law and spirit, and recognise the historical context of systemic discrimination and marginalisation. We embrace the contribution of every member of our institution and celebrate cultural diversity in the College. The diversity of our global community of students and staff is one of our greatest assets. Meaningful inclusion of all, irrespective of gender (including transgender, non-binary and other gender minorities), sexual identity, race, ethnicity, disability, religion or class, is one of our foundational principles in our quest for excellence in education and in creating a collegial and supportive space in which to live and work. Our core values include equity of opportunity and non-discrimination, which we expect all members of the College to uphold in all our practices and activities. In our pursuit of knowledge and the highest academic standards, we aim to promote open and critical enquiry, free debate and discussion of all points of view in an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance and recognition of the sensitivities of all members of our community.

Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) feature highly in our strategic priorities for 2024-27, including in our family friendly approach, in our scholarship fundraising campaign, and our EDI training. We are also improving the quantitative data we hold about the diversity of our community and using regular student and staff surveys to inform our understanding of our community’s experience. We aim to build on work to date during 2024/25 and beyond, and we welcome comments of feedback from members of our community.

Please see our 2023-24 EDI Report here.

We have an external EDI Advisory Board, established in 2020/21 in the wake of the Black Lives Matter and Rhodes Must Fall protests of the summer of 2020. It is chaired by Professor Anand Menon (Professor of European Politics, King’s College, London), and includes Professor Abena Busia on its membership. We are currently refreshing the Board following the departure of two members and will update membership here in due course.
