Full Professor at the Institute of Economics and International Relations (IERI) at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU).

Bachelor of Economic Sciences from UFU (1987). M.Sc. in Economics, by the Institute of Economics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IE/UFRJ), with the dissertation “Technological Assessment of Brazilian Steel Industry” (1992). Dr.Sc. in Economics from IE/UFRJ, with the thesis “Privatization and Market Structure in the World Steel Industry” (1998). Post-doctorate (Visiting Research Fellow) at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford (with a Research Scholarship from Banco Santos, 1999) and at Institute of Latin American Studies, Columbia University in the City of New York (CAPES Research Scholarship, 2013), both focusing on economic analysis of the steel industry. Current is Visting Research Fellow at Insper, in São Paulo City, until July 2024.

Since 1989, he has been dedicated to the analysis of the global steel and mining industry. Main publications: eight books (two as co-organizer), 24 book chapters, 450 articles in journals and magazines, and 58 works in annals of events. Completed supervision: 18 master’s dissertations (of which, one as a co-supervisor), 11 scientific initiation monographs and 96 course conclusion monographs. He has been a columnist for “Steel Times International” magazine since 2000 and was a columnist for “Revista da ABM” between 2001 and 2015.
