Reuben Wong is Deputy Head at the National University of Singapore’s Department of Political Science. He has an abiding interest in international relations. A former diplomat, he was First Secretary in the Singapore Embassy in Paris, 1995-98.  He earned an M.Phil in European Politics at St Antony’s Oxford, and a PhD in International Relations at the LSE. His publications include “The Europeanization of French Foreign Policy: France and the EU in East Asia” (2006), “National and European Foreign Policies” (2011), and journal articles in the Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Politique Européenne, the EU External Affairs Review, and the Hague Journal of Diplomacy. He has held visiting positions at Cambridge University (2005), the LSE (2008), the Stimson Center (Wash, DC, 2009), the East Asian Institute (Singapore, 2011), and Humboldt University (Berlin, 2014).

Reuben was Jean Monnet Professor in European Integration and Foreign Policy (2013-16); Academic Director (NUS Global) then Associate Vice President (Global Relations) for NUS from 2019-23. He is a member of the Singapore International Foundation’s Board of Governors (2021-). He speaks Chinese, English, French a smattering of Spanish, and does consulting and media interviews on EU foreign policy, international relations, and Singapore/SE Asian politics. He guest lectures on China’s rise at the SciencesPo summer school in Paris. Reuben and his wife raise four children to help arrest Singapore’s declining total fertility rate.
