Alejandro (DPhil International Relations) wins award at CDA Graduate Conference 2023

Congratulations to St Antony’s student Alejandro (DPhil International Relations) for his 1st Place Laureate at the Conference of Defence Associations Graduate Student Conference held last week in Ottawa.

Alejandro presented his ongoing research at the conference, titled ‘War and Peace by Other Means: The Narrative Construction of Victimhood in Societies Transitioning from Conflict.’

In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of recognising the fundamentally political nature of transitional justice and discussed some ways in which domestic and international actors can formulate transitional policies that are increasingly responsive to the needs of conflict victims. He argued that this is central to the success of peacebuilding interventions in post-conflict contexts.

Alejandro commented:

I am honoured and humbled to receive this award, which I view as a recognition that my doctoral project has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to academic and policy debates on post-conflict peacebuilding. It motivates me to continue working to understand the legacies and effects of transitional justice systems worldwide, looking to inform new approaches to their design and implementation.
