Rt Hon John Glen MP has been the Member of Parliament for Salisbury since 2010 and was elected to serve on the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee in October 2024 having been the Shadow Paymaster General for 4 months since the July 2024 General Election. John served in the cabinet of Rishi Sunak’s administration as both Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Paymaster General in the Cabinet Office, during which time he delivered the compensation scheme for the Infected Blood Scandal. 

Prior to these cabinet roles he spent a record tenure of four and a half years as Economic Secretary (City Minister) in HMT and was briefly Arts Minister and a Parliamentary Private Secretary to three cabinet Ministers including Lord Hammond when he was Chancellor. John was a strategy consultant at Accenture from 1997-2010 but had spells working as Deputy Director and Director of the Conservative Research Department when the Conservatives were in Opposition prior to 2010. He was also a JP in Westminster for 6 years. 

John grew up in North Wiltshire and attended King Edward’s School, Bath before reading Modern History at Mansfield College, Oxford (1993-1996) where he was JCR President. John studied for an MBA at Fitzwilliam College Cambridge in 2002-3. In 2014/15 John completed an MA in International Security and Strategy at King’s College London whilst participating in the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) Course for senior military leaders and civil servants.
