2026 Elliott Lecture: Reporting from Russia in a time of war

Steve Rosenberg
Friday 6 March
5.00pm
Nissan Lecture Theatre

We are delighted to welcome Steve Rosenberg for the Centre’s flagship lecture, the Fay and Geoffrey Elliott Lecture. Steve Rosenberg is a British journalist for BBC News. He has been its Moscow correspondent since 2003, apart from a stint as Berlin correspondent between 2006 and 2010. In 2022, he became the Russia editor for BBC News.

What does it mean to report from a country at war, from the heart of the state shaping the conflict?

In this timely talk, Steve Rosenberg reflects on two decades of reporting from Moscow and the extraordinary pressures facing journalists covering Russia today. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the most recognisable Western journalists in Moscow, and to understand how news is gathered, tested, and told at a moment of historic consequence.

For anyone trying to make sense of Russia’s role in today’s world, this promises to be an unmissable evening of analysis, reflection, and behind-the-scenes insight.

The Elliott Lecture will be followed by a drinks reception in the Senior Common Room.

This event will not be streamed online or recorded.
