Trinity Term Academic Office Events

The Academic Office has organised a range of events for Trinity Term which we look forward to welcoming you to. Students will recieve regular reminders about these events as well.

To sign up for an event, please complete the form linked in the event title. For DPhil specific events, sign-up links have been sent in a separate email. If you cannot access the links to the form, please first check that you are signed in to your University Microsoft 365 account in your browser.

Firstly, a bit of general housekeeping. Responding to feedback, we are making two changes to the way we run events next term:

  1. These events will no longer be ‘first come, first served’. We will instead open and close the sign-ups earlier for each event, and places will be allocated by a ballot, in order to be fairer to those who cannot check emails as regularly as others. We will continue to run a waiting list.
  2. Due to a high rate of non-attendance at events over the past couple of terms, we have updated our terms and conditions to ensure our events are well attended, food and effort is not wasted, and guests don’t find themselves on empty tables. When you sign up to attend, you are committing to be available for the event should a place be allocated to you. If you find you can no longer attend, you must inform us ASAP, and at least 48 hours before the event. If you do not attend without previously letting us know, then you will not be allocated a place at events for the following term.

Week 2 – Warden’s Breakfast, Tuesday 30th April, 8am, Old Fellow’s Dining Room

The first Warden’s Breakfasts of Trinity Term will be taking place on Tuesday 30th April at 8am in the Old Fellow’s Dining Room. This is an opportunity for an informal discussion with the Acting Warden about your experience of the College and the University.

Only 18 places are available, and will be prioritized for students who have not yet attended a Warden’s Breakfast this Academic Year. Please fill in the form below to book your place. The deadline for signing up is noon on Tuesday 23rd April, and you will be informed if you have been allocated a place or are on the waiting list on that Thursday afternoon.

Week 2 – EDI Training, Thursday 2nd May, 2pm, Nissan Lecture Theatre

On Thursday 2nd May at 14:00 in the Nissan Lecture Theatre, Dr Clara Barker (Department of Materials, Dean for Equality and Diversity at Linacre College) and Kirren Mahmood (Welfare Officer, Jesus College & Reuben College) will be giving a talk on Equality and Diversity within the context of Oxford.

All members of the College community are invited to attend this talk. Signing up is not required but will help the event organisers monitor numbers.

Week 3 – Extracurricular Spotlight Event, Friday 10th May, 5pm, Nissan Lecture Theatre

The Acting College Warden, Professor Nandini Gooptu, would like to invite all St Antony’s students to an Extracurricular Spotlight Event at 5pm in the Nissan Lecture Theatre on Friday 10th May.

Our College is a space for students’ social and cultural life alongside academic study. This is a new initiative this term to enrich our College life by celebrating our students’ extra-curricular activities – as our motto says ‘plus est en vous’ -there is more in you, and we would like to hear all about it.

The Extracurricular Spotlight encourages our students to enrich our College life by telling us about some of their experiences outside of their studies. Whether you are a keen travel photographer, volunteer in a local community organisation, have unusual hobbies or careers. Now’s your chance to tell your fellow students about what you do with your spare time! These could include presentations on anything from artistic and creative pursuits (including brief displays or performances) to community-based work.

Each presenter will have 5-10 minutes, depending on what they wish to present. If we receive more expressions of interest, than we can accommodate in the available time, a small working group will make a selection together with a GCR VP/Officer.

Speakers at the Extracurricular Spotlight will be thanked with a place at the High Table dinner on the same evening.

Week 3 – DPhil High Table, Friday 10th May, 6:45pm, CCR & Dining Hall

The Acting College Warden, Professor Nandini Gooptu, would like to invite 30 DPhil Students to attend a High Table on Friday 10th May. Drinks will be at 6:45 and dinner at 7:30.

Places will be allocated via ballot, and we’ll let you know if you have been given a place by Friday 3rd May. If you do not get a place, you will be added to a waiting list. Please only sign up to attend if you are definitely available to attend the event on 10th May.

DEADLINE TO RSVP: Wednesday 1st May @ 9am. Signups for this event will be circulated to DPhil students shortly.

Week 4 – Welfare Lunch, Tuesday 14th May, 12:30pm, New Fellow’s Dining Room

Focus on Welfare – Each term the college runs a free welfare lunch for students. The lunch offers an opportunity to speak to the welfare team, learn something new and socialise in an informal environment with fellow students. This term, the Welfare Lunch will be part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Places for this lunch will be allocated by ballot.  We will inform all students whether they have a place by 8th May.

DEADLINE TO RSVP: Tuesday 7th May @ 4pm

Week 4 – Exam Stress Workshop, Friday 17th May, 2:30pm, Location TBC

Join Thea and Aym from the Academic Office at 2:30pm on 17th May to discuss how to manage exam stress. They will share a range of coping strategies for exam related stress, and discuss the importance (and difficulty) of taking care of yourself during intense periods of study. Location TBC.

Sign-ups are not mandatory for attending this event, but will help the event organisers with administrating and preparing for it.

Week 6 – DPhil Supper, Wednesday 29th May, 5pm, Nissan Lecture Theatre & New Fellow’s Dining Room

The Academic Office would like to invite all St Antony’s DPhil students to a free DPhil Supper. The evening starts with short presentations of the research of fellow students, followed by a free dinner in the New Fellow’s Dining Room.

We are asking for 4 volunteers to present their research before the supper. We expect students presenting to be in the second year or above of their DPhil, allowing them to have had some time to establish their projects.

Places for this event will be allocated by a ballot. We will inform all students by Wednesday 22nd May.

We ask students ONLY to sign up if they can commit to this event and attend. This is to ensure the event is successful and enjoyable for all participants and we avoid wasting food.

DEADLINE TO RSVP: Tuesday 21st May @ 4pm. Signups for this event will be circulated to DPhil students shortly.

Week 6 – Neurodiversity Awareness Session, Thursday 30th May, 2:30pm, Nissan Lecture Theatre

The College has invited Dr Leaver, an experienced GP who has worked with many students at the University, to give a talk on Neurodiversity. He will be joined by an alum of the College who will be talking about their lived experience of being a neurodivergent student, and how it impacted their studies. This talk is a fantastic chance to learn more about how to support neurodivergent members of our community. The talk will be at 2:30pm in the Nissan Lecture Theatre.

All members of the College community are invited to attend this talk. Signing up is not required but will help the event organisers monitor numbers.

Week 7 – Warden’s Breakfast, Tuesday 4th June, 8am, Old Fellow’s Dining Room
