College clubs and societies

The St Antony’s student community runs a range of clubs and societies. You will find out all about them during Welcome Week. Students wishing to start new clubs should contact the GCR Executive about the possibility of sponsorship, and the Head of Academic Office about incorporating your club.

The Antonian Music Society is an inclusive music society founded at St Antony’s College.

We manage the college garden. We seed and harvest flowers, vegetables, and fruits. We also do crafts!

The St Antony’s GSEC (Global Social Enterprise Club) supports people to clarify their global social impact goals and to connect with resources, opportunities, and networks to achieve them. Through connections to St Antony’s College, Saïd Business School, and the social entrepreneurship and innovation communities in Oxford and beyond, we promote relevant events and opportunities, host topical mixers and talks, go to conferences together, and more.

The purpose of GSFS is to promote cultural diversity and understanding by screening films primarily from the Global South, fostering dialogue, and engaging the college and wider university community in conversations about the rich cinematic traditions of these regions.

Publishes an academic journal on the social, economic, and political affairs of the Middle East. Hosts events (primarily cultural) surrounding Middle Eastern societies. Keen engagement from members of St Antony’s College.

Paint Antony’s aims to provide an open space for artistic self-expression and creative exploration through the medium of art. In our bi-weekly paint and chill sessions, as well as our mural (pending college approval) and canvas projects, we hope to enrich the campus visually and enable students of all skill levels to take a much-needed break from their studies.

A group that welcomes casual runners to weekly runs around Oxford and provides a space for St Antony’s students to destress, exercise, and socialise. The group holds 3 sessions during the week that consist of short runs during the weekdays and a longer run on the weekend.

We are the College football team, competing in the MCR league and Cuppers organised by OUAFC. We hold weekly training sessions and play matches against other colleges each week.

STAIR is Oxford’s student-run peer-reviewed journal of International Affairs. Founded in 2005 by graduate students at St. Antony’s College, STAIR publishes emerging and veteran scholars alike in two annual journal issues and in our web-based Commentary section. STAIR also produces podcast episodes and hosts events for the Oxford community.

St Antony’s Volleyball Club is a club dedicated to training St Antony’s students in the sport of volleyball by hosting open volleyball practices and competing in the yearly Volleyball Cuppers at the University.

We are a women’s football team composed of members from St Antony’s, Wolfson and St Cross College. We have bi/tri-weekly practices and play weekly league and cupper games.

The Liberation Archive aims to be a student-run, peer-reviewed academic journal at Oxford dedicated to fostering critical discussion on the enduring legacies of colonialism and imperialism, and the oppressive social structures that have emerged as a result of these global phenomena. Our mission is to provide a platform for students, scholars, and creatives to critically engage with the forces of imperialism, capitalism, patriarchy, racism, religious intolerance, casteism, and queerphobia— through both scholarly research and creative contributions such as literature, poetry, art, media, and blog articles.

Facilities and further activities

The College Gym is for use by students exclusively and is open 24 hours per day during term

The Gym is well provisioned with everything that you would expect: Cross trainer, treadmill, Smith machine, dual adjustable pulley, free weights and more.

If you choose to join the Gym, you will be charged a £25 annual fee that is non-refundable.

To join, please:

  1. Fill out the Pre-exercise Questionnaire and Gym User Disclaimer Form
  2. Email them both to gym@sant.ox.ac.uk
  3. Allow 24 hours for you to receive confirmation that your BOD card has been updated with Gym access (this is done remotely).

Important Note:

The Gym is not actively managed and supported. The equipment is serviced every 6 months by an external provider and is cleaned once a week. As such, gym users are asked to take due care and be mindful of this, cleaning up after themselves and wiping the equipment down after each use.

The email address gym@sant.ox.ac.uk is only monitored and responded to for the purposes of collecting forms and issuing access. Please direct any other queries to the GCR Sports Officer, who will report it to the Head of Operations and Estates.

Gym Inductions

Inductions are not mandatory, but are advised.

The Music Room is a GCR-run space that is bookable by students during term time for practice or performance for singing, playing one’s own instrument or using the electronic Yamaha Clavinova piano. It is located adjacent to the Founder’s Building. Booking the Music Room is via the Lodge.

In addition to the role that the Graduate Common Room (GCR) plays in supporting and representing the student body in College, the Oxford University Student Union (OUSU) works at a University-wide level to provide a voice where individual Common Rooms cannot, and to support GCR officers in their work in College (eg through training).

The GCR has an OUSU Officer who is the student body’s main link with OUSU. However, all St Antony’s students are encouraged to learn more about OUSU and how to become involved and benefit from OUSU’s campaigns and events.

Please visit the OUSU website for more information.

Punting is a quintessentially Oxford pastime that is well worth trying. St Antony’s has a punt moored at the Cherwell Boathouse, a 10-15 minute walk from the College. The punt is available during summer months and is free to members of College. Bookings can be made up to a week in advance for a two-hour slot. Bookings should be made through the Lodge.

Full terms and conditions are emailed to College members at the start of each summer and are available on request from the Lodge.
